PREPARATION
Preparing the BBQ Sauce:
- Dice the onion into small cubes.
- Heat the olive oil in a small pot, add the onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add the tomato paste and sauté for another minute.
- Add all the remaining sauce ingredients and the water.
- Mix well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer over low heat (uncovered) for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- If the sauce seems too thick, add a little more water as needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
Preparing the Crispy Onion Rings:
- Cut the onion into 1 cm thick rings.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add the cold beer and mix well until you have a smooth batter.
- Dip the onion rings in the beer batter.
- Heat oil in a deep pot or deep pan to 180°C (350°F).
- Fry the onion rings until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Preparing the Burger:
- Heat a pan or grill to medium-high heat.
- Season the burger patties with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Toast the halved burger buns in the pan or on the grill for about a minute.
Assembling the Burger:
- Spread BBQ sauce on the bottom half of the bun.
- Place lettuce leaves and a tomato slice.
- Place the burger patty and top with several crispy onion rings.
- Spread more BBQ sauce on the top half of the bun and place it on top.
To Serve:
Serve immediately while the burger is still hot and the onion rings are crispy. Can be served with fries or a green salad on the side.
Enjoy!
